PD Explorers LogoThe Wheaton Police Department in conjunction with DuPage County Sheriff’s Office & Glen Ellyn Police Department are proud to present the opportunity to our communities’ youth to become a part of DuPage Metro Police Explorer’s Post #644.

The DuPage Metro Explorers program is a career-oriented initiative that gives young adults, ages 14-20 years old, the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement or other related fields in the criminal justice system by working with local law enforcement agencies. These training opportunities include hands-on activities, demonstrations, and meetings to gain an in-depth personal understanding of what it means to be a member of the law enforcement community. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, team-building exercises, physical fitness, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Must be 14–20 years old.
  • Must be enrolled in a qualifying high school/college program or provide proof of part-time employment.
  • Maintain a “C” average, while enrolled with the Post.
  • Submit a formal application, and complete & pass a background check.
  • Attend at least 75% of the Post’s meetings annually.
  • Abide by all DuPage Metro Police Explorer Post #644 Policies & Procedures.

Meetings & Training

Meetings are held twice a month on Monday evenings.

Trainings include, but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Traffic Stops
  • Crime Prevention
  • Arrest Procedure
  • Criminal Law
  • Domestic Violence
  • Evidence Collection
  • Building Searches
  • Ride-Along Opportunities

Community Service

During community events, Explorers are immersed in real-time learning and experience while working alongside our Law Enforcement Officers. The hours of community service provided by our Explorers are logged and can be utilized in scholarship applications!

  • Learning responsibility to yourself and your community through leadership opportunities.
  • Gain exposure to many differing criminal justice-based careers and gaining positive experiences with law enforcement professionals.
  • Learning how to positively deal with conflict, a life skill that can transfer to other areas in an Explorer’s life outside a career in Law Enforcement.
