When severe weather causes power outages, ComEd encourages residents who have lost power to call 800-Edison1 (800-334-7661) to report the outage. ComEd relies on both its monitoring program at its Emergency Operating Center and customer reports to determine where there are outages. ComEd encourages customers to call every 8 to 12 hours to ensure restorations do not leave some isolated customers or areas without service.
When restoring power during a widespread outage, ComEd uses a prioritized response. The prioritization is:
- Life safety facilities (hospitals)
- Emergency response customers (police departments, fire stations, pumping facilities)
- Senior facilities
- Outages affecting the largest number/concentration of customers
