COVID Update

Tier 3 Mitigations and City Services

With a new wave of COVID-19 surging across Illinois, the The state’s Tier 3 mitigations to reduce the spread of COVID-19 are now in effect, limiting capacity for many places and restricting some indoor activities, among other changes. Please note the following information about how the City will continue providing services to the community.

Procedures at City Facilities
City Hall and the Wheaton Police Department will remain open to the public with the safety measures that are already in place, including requiring all people to wear a mask when entering any City facility, markers on the floor designating proper distancing for those waiting at the City’s service counters, and glass barriers at service counters. We will also be implementing a capacity limit for the number of people who may be in the City Hall lobby, consistent with 25% capacity limits for many types of businesses. No more than 15 people may be in the lobby at one time, and additional visitors will be asked to wait outside until another visitor exits.

Services Available without Visiting City Facilities
We’d like to remind you that there are many services for which you do not need to visit City facilities. You can make utility bill payments, pay parking tickets and submit general City bill payments and more on the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/billpay. Or, use the drive-through drop box just west of City Hall (enter from Wesley Street) to drop off City bills (no other U.S. mail, please). In addition, you can submit many types of service requests on the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/servicerequest.

Finally, if you or a family member are ill, please refrain from visiting City Hall. If you or a family member are ill and need to visit the Police Department, please use the call box near the front door, and let the staff member know of this circumstance. A staff member will meet you outside to assist you.

Light Up Wheaton

Community Encouraged to “Light Up Wheaton” this Season

This year perhaps more than ever, our community could use a lift in spirits. The City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District are teaming up to encourage everyone to “Light Up Wheaton” by adding lights and decorations outside their homes, businesses, churches, or other organizations throughout the holiday season.

To help Light Up Wheaton, residents, businesses, churches and owners of other buildings can put out lights and decorations in the coming weeks for all to see. And, if you’d like to take part in the Light Up Wheaton Holiday Lights competition and be added to a tour map of Light Up Wheaton stops, register through the Wheaton Park District at wheatonparkdistrict.com/lightupwheaton by Dec. 10. Award winners for the People’s Choice Award and Mayor’s Choice Award will receive $100 in local gift cards.

Make sure you’re following the Wheaton Park District and the City of Wheaton on Facebook so you can vote for your favorite lights and to get your map of Light Up Wheaton holiday stops.

DuPage County Health

DuPage County Opens Additional COVID-19 Testing Site

In response to the exponential spread of COVID-19 cases and the increased need for testing, the DuPage County Health Department opened a second COVID-19 drive-through testing site at the Odeum Expo Center, 1033 N. Villa Ave., in Villa Park.

This is in addition to the testing site at the DuPage County Complex in Wheaton, which is located on County Farm Road just north of Manchester Road.

Anyone can be tested, and no appointment, doctor referral, or insurance is required. Visitors are encouraged to pre-register at testdirectly.com, but pre-registration does not guarantee testing or a place in line for that day. Please be sure to check with the DuPage County Health Department for specific schedules and availability, as the sites may be closed on holidays or may reach capacity. You can find this information on Facebook and Twitter, or visit www.dupagehealth.org/covid19testing.

Cooking Oil Collection

Cooking Oil Collection Event

The City and Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission will be hosting a drop-off event for the collection of cooking oil on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m. at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This is a drive-through event, where volunteers will unload items you bring to this collection from your car. Strained corn oil, olive oil, peanut oil and any type of vegetable oil contained within a safely sealed container will be collected and turned into biofuel. Please note that this program cannot accept bacon or meat grease.

Due to COVID-19, all participating residents are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing at the event. Please place items as far back in your trunks for staff/volunteers to handle.

The City reminds residents that pouring cooking oil down your sink’s drain can cause blockages as well as sanitary sewer backups and pouring anything down the storm drain is illegal.
