After 20 years representing the City of Wheaton as City Attorney, James Knippen will be retiring in February. Monday, Feb. 6, 2023 will be Knippen’s final City Council meeting in this role. A reception will be held at 6:15 p.m. prior to the City Council meeting. Please come by and thank Jim for his service to the community.
A longtime Wheaton area resident, City Attorney Knippen has represented the City of Wheaton as an attorney with the consulting law firm of Walsh, Knippen and Cetina; the firm has represented the City distinguishingly for more than 40 years. City Attorney Knippen is a key team member, always providing a clear legal perspective.
“Serving as the legal face for the City of Wheaton, Jim Knippen has dedicated an extraordinary amount of effort providing counsel for City staff and the City Council,” said City Manager Michael Dzugan. “His work is impeccably researched, reasoned and supported, and I appreciate his decades of service to our community in this role.”
In anticipation of Knippen’s retirement, the City established a new Legal Department to be led by a staff City Attorney.
