[ARCHIVED] Wheaton Police Conducting Speed Awareness Traffic Campaign

Police squad car

School is out for the summer, and with warmer temperatures, this means more vehicles on the road as well as pedestrians and bicyclists. The Wheaton Police Department encourages all motorists to adhere to posted speed limits, which are generally 25 mph in neighborhoods.

To help raise awareness for safe driving, now through June 11 the Wheaton Police Department will be participating in a Speed Awareness Traffic Campaign targeting speeding motorists. Officers will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement on several city roadways with the goal of gaining voluntary compliance with the local speed limits. See this video message from the Wheaton Police Department.

Wheaton residents can also report their traffic concerns online by going to www.wheaton.il.us/servicerequest and completing the form. In most cases, you can expect to be contacted by a traffic unit officer within 48 to 72 hours to follow up on the concern. However, if you have a traffic issue needing immediate assistance, please call 9-1-1.

Let’s all do our part this summer. You can help prevent motor vehicle crashes and reduce injuries by being aware of your surroundings and always obeying the speed limit.
