[ARCHIVED] Crews Starting Prep Work for Next Part of Downtown Project

road construction

Pedestrians and drivers in part of downtown Wheaton may experience temporary disruptions starting the week of March 19 while crews contracted by the City of Wheaton perform soil borings. This preliminary work is in preparation for the portion of the Downtown Streetscape Project that will begin in fall of 2018. This part of the project, Phase 2, will address the following street segments:

  • Hale Street, from Willow to Seminary
  • Cross Street, from Front Street to Wesley Street
  • Wesley Street, from Wheaton Avenue to Cross Street, starting in the fall of 2018.

This preliminary work may disrupt traffic temporarily. The City thanks you for your understanding as this work is completed.

Besides this preliminary work for Phase 2, you will begin to see exciting changes taking place on Front Street this spring and summer, as the City completes Phase 1 of the project. Work includes installing wider sidewalks, new lighting, benches and bike racks, improved landscaping and trees and new wayfinding signage. Martin Memorial Plaza will be relocated to the north side of Front Street and will include seating areas, an outdoor fireplace and a water feature.
