On March 4, 2022 at 4:53 pm., Wheaton Police and Wheaton Fire responded to Butterfield (Route 56) and Orchard Road for a single-vehicle fatal crash in which a car hit a traffic signal pole at the southeast corner of Butterfield Road and Orchard Road. No other vehicles were involved in this incident. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile and Wheaton Warrenville South student. The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation so no additional information will be released at this time.

The MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team was activated, and Butterfield Road was shut down for approximately 5 hours while the reconstruction team conducted its investigation.
