[ARCHIVED] Bond Set at $750,000 for Wheaton Man Charged with Shooting Vehicles Outside His Home

Newsflash_Police_Update

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Wheaton Chief of Police William Murphy announced that bond has been set for a Wheaton man accused of shooting at vehicles outside his home. Anthony Holland, 23 (d.o.b. 3/12/1998) of the 1300 block of N. Main Street, appeared at a bond hearing yesterday morning where Judge Maureen Dunsing set bond at $750,000 with 10% to apply. Holland has been charged with one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 1 Felony and one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 4 Felony.

Holland, Anthony

On July 22, 2021, at approximately 10:48 p.m., officers with the Wheaton Police Department responded to a call of shots fired on the 1300 block of N. Main Street. Upon their arrival, officers observed four vehicles parked in the area with apparent gunshot damage including broken windows, bullet holes in the body of vehicles and bullet holes through one vehicle’s rear license plate. An investigation into the matter alleges earlier that day, an individual (A) known to the defendant had a physical altercation with another individual (B). It is alleged that the second individual (B) and others went to Holland’s street where one member of the group allegedly broke the window of a parked car with a baseball bat. It is alleged that upon hearing this disturbance, Holland exited his home and began shooting at the vehicle as it fled the scene. Holland was taken into custody from his home on July 23, 2021, without incident.

“It is alleged that in the late evening hours last Thursday night, the defendant demonstrated a blatant disregard of the law and public safety when he opened fire just outside his home,” Berlin said. “This type of violent behavior that puts the public at risk will most certainly not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed as a result of Mr. Holland’s alleged violent actions. I thank the Wheaton Police Department for their outstanding work on this case. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Grace Barsanti and Bridget Carlson for their efforts in preparing a strong case against Mr. Holland.”

“The men and women of the Wheaton Police Department did truly outstanding work,” Murphy said. “We are grateful that no one was injured during these violent acts. We will continue to investigate this matter in partnership with State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and his staff until all involved parties are held accountable.”

Holland’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 23, 2021, for arraignment in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
