The City of Wheaton has several updates regarding winter snow operations and closures for Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.
Snow Plowing
Wheaton's Public Works Department crews continue working to clear streets as quickly and efficiently as possible. Crews use a priority system in their routes, first clearing main thoroughfares, high volume areas and potentially dangerous areas such as railroad crossings, school zones, curves, bridges and intersections. Next are secondary and residential streets, followed by cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets.
City Hall
Wheaton City Hall is open for regular business, as are other City of Wheaton offices.
Wheaton Public Library
The Wheaton Public Library is closed today due to weather.
Garbage Pickup
Lakeshore Recycling Systems will not pick up garbage and recycling today (Friday, Feb. 9) due to weather. If your normal pickup day is today, your pickup will be delayed until tomorrow.
No Electronic Recycling Tomorrow
Due to weather, there will be NO electronic recycling drop-off event on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Public Works Storage Yard.
Parking
Please do not park on the street. Our snowplows need for cars to be off the street so they can clear streets all the way to the curb.
No Plowing / Blowing / Shoveling Snow into the Street
Please do not plow, blow or shovel snow into the street. When you move snow onto the street, it not only hinders the efforts of City crews who are trying to keep roadways clear, it also creates a safety hazard for other drivers. If you use a snow plowing service, please remind them not to push snow onto the opposite parkway, as this violates CIty Code.
Hydrants
If there is a fire hydrant near your property, please help by clearing snow away from the hydrant. This ensures firefighters have quick access in the event of a fire.
