At approximately 4:45 a.m. on June 21, 2021 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of North Washington. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fire in a garage attached to a single-family dwelling.

The fire was brought under control within several minutes and it was contained primarily to the garage area.  All occupants safely escaped the building and the incident did not result in any injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation.  The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and appears to be related to an electrical issue within the garage.  The fire does not appear to be the result of any earlier severe weather activity.  Damage estimates are unavailable at this time.

City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene.  The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities.

The building was turned back over to the owner after the fire and the occupants were able to re-occupy the home.
