[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Extinguishes Structure Fire

At approximately 8:25 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2021, the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of South Gables. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fully involved detached garage with multiple vehicles on fire. The fire was impinging upon several single-family dwellings adjacent to the garage.  

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. All occupants safely escaped the adjacent houses, and the incident did not result in any injuries. 

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is undetermined, and a damage estimated is not available at this time. The fire caused extensive damage to four vehicles along with minor damage to the adjoining homes.  

The homes were deemed safe for re-occupancy after the fire. The City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities.  

The building was turned back over to the owner after the fire.
