[ARCHIVED] Downtown Wheaton Train Station To Reopen Jan. 29

train station

The City of Wheaton received clearance from building inspectors today to reopen the indoor waiting area of the downtown Wheaton Metra station at 402 W Front Street starting Monday, Jan. 29 at 4:45 a.m.

Crews have been cleaning and painting the inside of the facility, and have secured damaged areas that still need repair. Temporary heating and electricity have been brought in, however, the restrooms will not be immediately available for use. The City will post updates when the restrooms will be reopened.

Damage from a fire in the station Nov. 22 has kept the facility closed to this point. The City leases the building from the Union Pacific Railroad and has been working with insurance representatives and structural engineers to determine the extent of damage and ensure the building’s safety.

The City appreciates your patience and apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused.
