[ARCHIVED] Community Message: Two Planned Protest Marches on June 13

police general photo

The City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Police Department are aware of two separate planned protests and marches on Saturday, June 13, starting at Adams Park at noon and 2:00 p.m. Organizers of each of these events have advertised them as peaceful protests. Protests of this nature are a protected form of the Constitutional right to free speech and assembly.

Participants are planning to walk on sidewalks. Vehicular traffic may experience minor delays when the pedestrian groups are crossing intersections.

The first planned protest and march will be from 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m. The second planned protest and march will be from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Both will begin and end at Adams Park, and we anticipate they will use the following route:

  • Starting from Adams Park
  • North on Main Street to Geneva Road
  • Turning around at Geneva Road and returning south on Main Street
  • Concluding at Adams Park

The Wheaton Police Department has been in contact with the events’ organizer, and officers will be present for everyone’s safety. We expect these will be peaceful gatherings and we respect the right of people to assemble peacefully, but we remind attendees that violent, criminal acts will not be tolerated.

The Wheaton Police Department and City of Wheaton will continue to keep the community up-to-date.
