[ARCHIVED] Wheaton Earns “Storm-Ready” Designation

Storm Ready

In recognition of the work the City of Wheaton has done to establish emergency management procedures and activities, Wheaton was recently named a “Storm Ready” community by the National Weather Service.

Wheaton is one of only 82 communities statewide to achieve this designation. To qualify, the process involves an assessment of the City’s emergency management preparedness activities by a panel comprised of representatives from the National Weather Service, Illinois Emergency Management Agency and DuPage County Office of Homeland Security. Wheaton’s Fire Department serves as the lead for emergency management preparedness for weather-related incidents.

The National Weather Service made a presentation to the Wheaton City Council at its most recent City Council meeting, presenting the City with a street sign noting the community’s new designation.
