On Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the Wheaton North Falcon Marching Band will be participating in a fundraising March-a-Thon. This event will include the Falcon Band marching through the northside of Wheaton to promote themselves and raise awareness of their campaign to support funding for travel to the Bands of America competition in October 2019.
The March-a-Thon will kick off from the Central Athletic Complex on Naperville Road at 8:00 a.m. and travel north through several neighborhoods with the band performing along the way back to Wheaton North High School.
Step off for the one-band parade is at 8:00 a.m. at Central Athletic Center. The band will head east on Indiana Street, north on Washington Street, west on Seminary Avenue, north on Hale Avenue, west on Union Avenue, north on Wheaton Avenue, east on Prairie Avenue, north on Scott Street, east on Wakeman Avenue, north on Washington Avenue, west on Cole Avenue, north on Papworth Street, and west into the Wheaton North High School parking lot.
During this event, these roadways will be temporarily closed while the student band is present and marching in the roadway. Once the band has safely cleared the roadway the road will be re-opened to all motor vehicle traffic. In most cases, these roads will be closed for only a short period of time (10-15 minutes) and only closed when the band is present or approaching the designated roads on the route.
During this time, these streets will be staffed with uniformed Police Officers to assist and direct traffic.
Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades or cones to ensure the safety of the band.
Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and choose to alter their travel route to avoid these areas.
