[ARCHIVED] Candidate Petitions for 2019 Municipal Election Available Aug. 28

Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, petitions for candidacy for the 2019 Wheaton municipal election will be available in the Office of the City Clerk at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street, Wheaton, IL. One 4-year position for Mayor and two 4-year positions for Councilman At-Large are up for election. Candidates shall:

  • Be registered voters of the City of Wheaton. Candidates must reside within the corporate limits of the city at least one year next preceding the election; and
  • File Nonpartisan Primary Petitions for Nomination signed by at least 330 registered City of Wheaton voters residing within the corporate limits of the City of Wheaton. Please note: This information is provided solely as a public service. The City of Wheaton and its City Clerk make no representations regarding the accuracy or validity of this information. Please consult with an attorney and/or review the State Election Code (10 ILCS 5/10-3) before taking any action.
  • The Nonpartisan Primary Petitions for Nomination should be filed together with a Statement of Candidacy, Loyalty Oath (optional), and a receipt indicating the candidate has filed a Statement of Economic Interest with the DuPage County Clerk.

Petitions for nomination are filed with the Wheaton City Clerk, City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street, Second Floor, Wheaton, Illinois. The filing period is Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 through Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding weekend days and holidays.

A Consolidated Primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 if more than four candidates file for the position of Mayor and if more than eight candidates file for the positions of Councilman At-Large. The Consolidated General Election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, with the successful candidates taking office at the latter of either the first regular or special meeting after receipt of the official election results or at the first regular or special meeting in the month following their election.
