The traffic signals at Main and Front Street and Main and Liberty Street will be turned off and put on stop sign control beginning this Friday, June 15th, as contractors work to install and tie in new signal infrastructure on Front Street as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project.
Southbound traffic on Main Street crossing the tracks will not stop at Liberty, but will continue to free-flow through the intersection. The other three legs of this intersection will have warning signs indicating that the southbound traffic does not stop.
Northbound vehicles on Main Street will have a stop-sign right before the train tracks, and then will have free-flow access across the intersection of Front Street. A no left-turn sign will also be posted as a reminder that Front Street is one-way. Both sides of the train tracks will have signs posted reminding drivers and pedestrians "Do Not Stop On Tracks".
The City will be monitoring the flow of traffic throughout this time to determine if any changes need to be implemented. The stop signs will be in place for the duration of the work over these next several weeks.
