At approximately 8:00 p.m. on May 26, 2018 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1530 North Main Street. Upon arrival, fire crews identified heavy smoke showing in the attic of a one-story office building. The attic had extensive fire and the extinguishing operation took approximately 60 minutes to complete. The building was not occupied at the time of fire and the fire did not cause any injuries.
Investigators from Wheaton Fire Department, Wheaton Police Department, and DuPage County Fire Investigation Taskforce conducted a fire investigation. While the exact cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, it was not suspicious in nature. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time. City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and numerous fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was posted unsafe for occupancy and turned back over to the property owner.
