[ARCHIVED] Kick Off the Holiday Season in Wheaton with Nights of Lights, Parade, and Tree Lighting

Christmas Parade

The holiday season in Wheaton kicks off on Friday, Nov. 24, brought to the community by the Downtown Wheaton Association and the City of Wheaton. 

Start with the return of the Nights of Lights in Adams Park, which will come to life with a park lighting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. This year’s display will be more spectacular than ever, featuring more than 55,000 lights and an animated light display at the fountain. You will be able to enjoy the lights each night through Sunday, Jan. 7.

After enjoying the Nights of Lights, find a spot for the community-favorite annual Christmas Parade, hosted by the Downtown Wheaton Association. The parade will start off at Wheaton Ave. and Wesley Street, in front of City Hall, at 6 p.m. and will travel south on Wheaton Ave. to Front Street and east on Front Street to Cross Street. Please visit the City’s website for a map of the parade route.

There will be several road closures for the parade:

  • On Thursday, Nov. 23 at approximately 11 p.m. to Friday, Nov. 24 at approximately 8 p.m., the following street will be temporarily closed:
    • Karlskoga Ave. between Wheaton Ave. and Hale Street
  • On Friday, Nov. 24 from approximately 4-8 p.m., the following street will be temporarily closed:
    • Wheaton Ave. between Union Ave. and Wesley Street
  • On Friday, Nov. 24 from approximately 5-8 p.m., the following streets will be temporarily closed:
    • Wheaton Ave. between Wesley Street and Front Street
    • Wesley Street between West Street and Hale Street
    • Front Street between Wheaton Ave. and Cross Street
    • Hale Street between Liberty Drive and Front Street
    • Main Street between Liberty Drive and Wesley Street
    • Cross Street between Liberty Drive and Front Street
    • Wesley Street between Scott Street and Main Street
    • Liberty Drive between Main Street and Cross Street

There will also be parking restrictions for the parade:

  • On Thursday, Nov. 23 after 11 p.m., there will be no parking allowed on the following street:
    • Karlskoga Ave. between Wheaton Ave. and Hale Street
  • On Friday, Nov. 24 after 3 p.m., there will be no parking on the following streets:
    • Front Street between Wheaton Ave. and Cross Street
    • Wheaton Ave. between Wesley Street and Front Street

Please note that on Friday, Nov. 24 after 5:30 p.m., vehicles cannot enter or exit the parking garage.

Immediately following the parade, travel over to the pavilion on Liberty Drive near Main Street for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7 p.m. Then, enjoy the tree daily from 4-10 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 7.
