[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Responds to Residential Structure Fire

Fire Department Notice

At approximately 1:17 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023, the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 2000 block of W. Roosevelt Road. Upon arrival, crews identified heavy fire present at the southeast corner of the residence and heavy smoke emanating from the roof.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes through coordinated fire suppression, ventilation, and overhaul efforts by multiple fire companies on the scene. All occupants of the home made it out safely, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Roosevelt Road was closed to traffic in both directions while fire crews responded to this incident.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental but undetermined at this time. The origin of the fire was determined to be from the exterior of the residence. Damage estimates are unavailable, however the building sustained heavy damage to both the interior and exterior.

The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and firefighters from Carol Stream, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago and Winfield.

The City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene and deemed the residence uninhabitable due to the smoke and fire damage.
