During the July 3, 2024, Wheaton Park District Independence Day fireworks display at Graf Park, the show’s fireworks display operator experienced a malfunction with one of the show’s fireworks. As a result, the remainder of the show was terminated. The Wheaton Fire Department was on site during the event, and there were no reported injuries resulting from the firework malfunction. As a precaution, the remainder of the show was suspended and the park was cleared for the evening. City of Wheaton safety personnel were on site and responded according to the safety plans in place in partnership with the Wheaton Park District. The Wheaton Fire Department did not treat any individuals at Graf Park, and neither the Wheaton Fire Department nor the Wheaton Police Department received any requests for medical treatment or transport.
