Wheaton has received approximately 5 inches of snow this morning, much of it falling within two hours. As snow began falling, the Public Works Department deployed its full fleet of 18 snow plows and pickup trucks early this morning, and crews have been working continuously to clear roads throughout the community.
Due to the significant amount of snow, blowing conditions and continued Winter Storm Warning through Saturday at noon, the community is encouraged to stay off the roads. If you must travel, use extreme caution.
There is no parking allowed on City streets at this time. This is necessary to allow crews to safely clear the streets for emergency vehicles and others on the road. Violators will be ticketed and may be towed at the owner's expense.
Due to weather conditions and for the safety of drivers, LRS has suspended service for remaining Friday routes. We will provide further instructions soon for households who did not receive service today.
Public Works crews will continue clearing streets in order of priority areas:
- Priority 1: Main thoroughfares, high volume areas and potentially dangerous areas such as railroad crossings, school zones, curves, bridges, and intersections
- Priority 2: Secondary and residential streets
- Priority 3: Cul-de-sacs and dead-ends will be the last areas plowed
