Illinois Rail Safety Week

Rail Safety Week Reminds You to Stay Off the Tracks

Wheaton Police are taking part in Illinois Rail Safety Week, a statewide effort promoting railroad safety through education, enforcement and engineering. In cooperation with Metra, Wheaton Police Officers will be out at railroad crossings and train stations this week to raise awareness and enforce violations. Please remember to never cross the tracks when the gates are down, and stay off of the tracks.

Employee Recognition
Congratulations to the City of Wheaton employees who were honored today for their service to the City. The City recognized 50 employees for a combined total of 765 years of service to the Wheaton community.

Police Seek Public’s Help in Locating Todd Olshefski

The Wheaton Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in locating Todd Olshefski of Lombard, Ill. Todd Olshefski is currently wanted on a Failure to Appear warrant for the original offense of Use of Charitable Trust Funds for Personal Benefit. This warrant was issued by the DuPage County Circuit Court and is maintained by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Mr. Olshefski was originally arrested on May 2, 2019 with his wife, Priscilla Olshefski. (Mr. Olshefski was released on bond and failed to appear at his next scheduled court date. For more information, please see the City’s website.



Temporary Road Closures for Light the Torch 5K

Please note that some roads will be closed Saturday evening from approximately 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the Light the Torch 5K run. See the road closures on the City’s website. Please do not move barricades so we can ensure the safety of race participants.



Hazardous Waste Collection Oct. 5

A one-day hazardous waste event will allow you to bring items such as oil-based paints, paint thinners, gasoline, motor oil, herbicides, household batteries, cleaning agents and more. This event will be on from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Bensenville Public Works Facility, 711 E. Jefferson St., Bensenville. Sponsored by the Illinois EPA and DuPage County, this event is open to all Illinois residents.

Wheaton Police Department Seeks Candidates

The Wheaton Police Department is accepting applications for its police officer testing process. The application is due by 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. If you are interested in becoming a Wheaton Police Officer or know someone who is interested, please see this video and visit the City’s website for information on how to apply and the testing process.

Illinois Street Resurfacing Project

The City of Wheaton is resurfacing Illinois Street between Naperville Road and Main Street. During the duration of the project, this segment of Illinois Street will be closed to all traffic between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and parking will not be allowed at any time. The resurfacing is anticipated to be completed by the end of this week. Detour signage will be in place and drivers are advised to use caution when traveling in this area.


Call for Actors

The City of Wheaton is looking for young actors to be audience members during the Mrs. W Storytime, which will be filmed on Monday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m. Actors should be Wheaton residents, ages 5 - 10. Roles are non-speaking/non-paying. The show airs on Comcast Channel 17 in the City of Wheaton. ALICE Training Offered Oct. 23

The Wheaton Police Department will be offering an ALICE Training session on Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street. ALICE (Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate) helps teach how to proactively handle a threat in a violent encounter/active shooter event. Register by calling 630.260.2012.
