Councilwoman Lynn Robbins

New Council Member Sworn In

At the Sept. 3 City Council meeting, Lynn Robbins was sworn in as the new West District City Council representative. Following Councilman Scalzo’s resignation from the City Council, the City asked for West District residents interested in being considered for the Council position to submit an application. The Mayor and City Council selected Councilwoman Robbins from the applicants, and she was sworn in at last night’s meeting.

Festival of Cultures

Festival of Cultures Coming Soon

Don’t miss a fun afternoon of storytelling, culture, food, arts, activities, music and more during the Festival of Cultures on Sunday, Sept. 15. Come out to the Wheaton French Market location (Main Street & Liberty Drive) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for this event, organized by the Wheaton Community Relations Commission. Experience the more than 30 participants and groups who will be at booths sharing their heritage and cultures. Live music will fill the air, festive food trucks will be onsite, and participants can fill out a Festival of Cultures passport and win a prize.

Garbage Pickup One Day Later This Week

Due to the Labor Day holiday, all garbage/recycling/yard waste pickups will be delayed one day this week.

Electronic Recycling at Temporary Location

Bring unwanted electronics, to this monthly drop-off event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 14 at the temporary location, which is at the City’s Commuter Parking Lot 9 (near the intersection of Carlton & Liberty Drive). Please note there is a charge to recycle TVs and monitors. For information on items that will be accepted, please see the City’s website. Note that due to the temporary relocation of this event, the City is unable to collect cooking oil, scrap metal and fluorescent tube bulbs. We apologize for the inconvenience.

September 11 Ceremony

Fire Department Hosting Sept. 11 Ceremony

The Wheaton Fire Department will host its annual Sept. 11 Commemoration Ceremony to remember those who lost their lives at Ground Zero in New York and to honor Wheaton fire and police personnel. The ceremony will take place in the front of the Wheaton Fire Department, 1 Fapp Circle at precisely 8:45 a.m. The community is invited to attend.

Library Card Sign-Up Month

Stop by the library during the month of September to learn what a library card can do for you. Show your Wheaton Public Library card at participating businesses to get discounts and gifts. Complete the library’s Toy Story 4 scavenger hunt, and sign-up or renew your WPL card for a chance to win a prize.

  • Eat the Frog Fitness, 2046 S Naperville Road: Featuring small group training that combines athletic inspired training, cutting-edge technology, and the science of your body for the most advanced workout in the market.

  • 302 Wheaton, 302 W Front Street: Opening in mid-September, this family-focused restaurant will feature a simple menu featuring delicious burgers and excellent craft beer in a gathering place for the community.
