Wheaton Bike Fest Happening This Saturday

Help celebrate the 5th annual Bike Wheaton Festival on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. Led by the Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission and the Downtown Wheaton Association, this is a free family-friendly event celebrating fun on two wheels.

This year’s Bike Wheaton Festival will take place in the parking lot behind Wheaton City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street. A bike parade begins at 10 a.m., followed by a bike decorating contest and a bike rodeo with Wheaton Police. Also included are exhibitions promoting cycling, bike safety and maintenance; a live DJ; and a place to donate bicycles to the organization Working Bikes. Please note these temporary road closures associated with the event

The Wheaton Police Department has adopted the ALICE Training model to teach citizens tools they could use if faced with a violent intruder situation. Watch this new video to find out how this method is different from previous approaches and what you can take away from ALICE training.

Wheaton Wine Walk is Tomorrow

Join the Wheaton Wine Walk and celebrate a festive evening in Downtown Wheaton from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. The Downtown Wheaton Association encourages you to check in at Martin Memorial Plaza to pick up your souvenir wine glass, tasting ticket and walking map. Your self-guided tour will take you through many of the shops and restaurants where you will taste wines from around the world. City Council to Discuss Roosevelt Road Corridor Study at Aug. 12 Planning Session

During the Aug. 12 Planning Session, the Wheaton City Council will discuss the Roosevelt Road Corridor Study with the consultant Camiros, Ltd. and Valerie Kretchmer & Associates, whom the City has enlisted to facilitate the Roosevelt Road Corridor Comprehensive Plan/Market Study/Zoning Ordinance Update process. The Council and consultant will present questions for further exploration and receive public comment from the audience to aid in planning. 

The Planning Session will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street. This meeting will be recorded and will be available for viewing on the City's website after the meeting.

Citizens Fire Academy

Join the Citizens Fire Academy

The Wheaton Fire Department invites you to participate in a hands-on learning experience that will have you gearing up in fire equipment and learning what the life of a Wheaton firefighter is really like.

The Citizens Fire Academy is a 7-week course offered exclusively to Wheaton residents. The academy runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 17 through Oct. 29. The academy will culminate with the opportunity to extinguish a fire at the Carol Stream burn tower.

To take part in the Citizens Fire Academy, you must be a Wheaton resident who is at least 18 years old. Participants should plan on attending all seven weeks of the academy, as the information and skills learned will build upon prior sessions.

Save the Date for Festival of Cultures

Wheaton’s Community Relations Commission encourages the community to save the date for the Festival of Cultures, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 15, 1-5 p.m. at Main Street & Liberty Drive (Lot 4, the Wheaton French Market site). Don’t miss this fun afternoon of storytelling, culture, food, arts, activities, music and more. Experience the more than 30 participants and groups who will be at booths sharing their heritage and cultures. The event will feature live music, food trucks and prizes for those who fill out a Festival of Cultures passport.
