Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Taking Place Monday

The City of Wheaton and American Legion Post 76 invite the community to honor those who have served our country during the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 27. Please note there is a new route this year due to downtown construction. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Memorial Park, 210 W Union Avenue, continuing west on Union, and then south on West Street until the Wheaton Cemetery. A Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the cemetery.

Good Citizens

Congratulations, Good Citizens!

The Wheaton City Council honored this year’s recipients of the Good Citizens Award at the May 20, 2019 Council meeting, highlighting some outstanding individuals and groups who have made a difference in the community. The Wheaton Community Relations Commission oversees this annual program, which was developed to recognize residents for their acts of selflessness, generosity, and service to our community. Read about this year’s award recipients.

Cop on a Rooftop

Wheaton Police Thank Community for Cop on a Rooftop Support

The Wheaton Police Department would like to thank the community for their support during last week’s Cop on a Rooftop event for Special Olympics Illinois at Dunkin’ Donuts. The community donated $4,200 during this event, and 100% of these proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes and programs.  Thank you for your generous support!

New Martin Memorial Plaza Dedication & Vintage Rides Kickoff This Friday

Join the City of Wheaton and the Downtown Wheaton Association for a special rededication of the Martin Memorial Plaza on Friday, May 24. It will also serve as the “We’re Back on Front Street!” kickoff of the Vintage Rides classic car show season, which returns to Front Street on Friday nights for the summer.

Check out the vintage cars starting at 6 p.m., and celebrate the rededication of Martin Memorial Plaza (on Front Street just west of Main Street) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The special evening will celebrate the new Front Street improvements and will feature vintage cars, music, strolling entertainment, cake and food vendors.

A focal point of the work completed in Phase 1 of the Downtown Streetscape Project, the new Martin Memorial Plaza features an outdoor fireplace, water feature, unique planters with a nod to Wheaton’s railroad history, a large gather space with tables and chairs, and overhead light strands that set a festive mood at night.
