City Seeks Applicants for Summer Positions

The City’s Public Works and Engineering departments have opportunities for summer positions with the City of Wheaton. The Public Works Department is hiring seasonal laborers to join their team from May through August this year. The full-time temporary positions are an opportunity to gain experience in the many services the Public Works Department provides.

In addition, the Engineering Department is seeking applicants for a Civil Engineer summer intern to assist with capital improvement projects. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering curriculum or related coursework at an accredited university.

For more information about these opportunities and how to apply, visit www.wheaton.il.us/jobs.

Illinois Emergency Management Agency Spreads Earthquake Preparedness Information

Did you know that Illinois is flanked on its western and eastern borders by two active seismic zones: the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone? The Illinois Emergency Management Agency encourages people to learn how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” to prevent injury during an earthquake. If you find yourself indoors during an earthquake, drop down to the floor; take cover under a sturdy desk, table or other furniture; and hold on to that object and be prepared to move with it until the shaking ends. Most casualties result from falling objects and debris caused by the earth shaking. For more preparedness information, visit IEMA’s website.
