Carriage Rides & Visits with Santa Continue

From noon to 3 p.m. each Saturday through Dec. 22, children can come pay Santa a visit as he gets ready for Christmas at Martin Memorial Plaza, 134 W Front Street. Also offered for all ages are free carriage rides around downtown Wheaton, starting from Martin Memorial Plaza. These events are organized by the Downtown Wheaton Association.  

Free Customer Parking during Holidays

During the busy holiday shopping season, all floors of the Wheaton Place Garage (232 W Wesley Street) are available for free customer parking. For more parking information in downtown Wheaton, please visit ?www.wheaton.il.us/parking.

Tips from Wheaton Police on Avoiding Scams

As the holiday season brings a flurry of shopping and travel, the Wheaton Police Department encourages you to take extra safety precautions and be on the lookout for an anticipated rise in scam attempts. See these safety suggestions and red flags that will help you identify scams during the holidays.? 

Fire Department Responds to House Fire 

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of Franklin Street. Upon arrival, fire crews identified heavy fire on the exterior of the chimney for a single-family residence with the fire extending to the interior. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. All occupants safely escaped the building and the incident did not result in any injuries.?More information on this incident is available on the City’s website

The Downtown Wheaton Association helped Wheaton welcome the holidays with the annual lighted Christmas Parade in downtown Wheaton. Check out this video with highlights from the parade and tree lighting ceremony.  

Holiday Garbage Schedule 

Due to the Christmas holiday, Lakeshore Recycling Systems will not collect garbage or recycling on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018 or Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. All pickups will be one day later than usual for Tuesday through Friday routes during the weeks of Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.  

City Offices Closed  

Non-emergency City of Wheaton offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 & 25, 2018. Offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019.
