Enjoy Free Carriage Rides & Visit with Santa
From noon to 3 p.m. each Saturday, Nov. 24 through Dec. 22, children can come pay Santa a visit as he gets ready for Christmas at Martin Memorial Plaza, 134 W Front Street. Also offered for all ages are free carriage rides around downtown Wheaton, starting from Martin Memorial Plaza. These free events are organized by the Downtown Wheaton Association.
Cooking Oil Collection After Thanksgiving
From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 25, the Wheaton Sanitary District, 1S640 Shaffner Road, will be collecting used liquid cooking oil (no bacon grease or other solid animal fats) to be recycled into biodiesel. This is a one-day event with the goal to make it easier for residents to properly dispose of their leftover or expired liquid cooking oil. All cooking oil must be dropped off in a sealed container. Containers will not be returned. This collection is for vegetable-based oil only.
Information on Filing Candidate Petition for Municipal Election or Filing Objection
The City Clerk’s Office is now accepting candidate petitions for the 2019 municipal election. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 26, excluding holidays. For more information, see the City’s website. Any candidate who has filed a nomination petition may cause his/her name to be withdrawn up to Dec. 19. Budget Workshop Videos Available
The City Council and City staff recently held three Budget Workshop Sessions to review and discuss the draft fiscal year budget. The City recorded these discussions, and the videos are available on the City’s website for the Nov. 10, Nov. 12 and Nov. 17 Budget Workshop Sessions.
Train Station Ticket Office Reopening
Metra has informed the City of Wheaton that its ticket office inside the downtown train station will be reopening on Monday, Nov. 26.
