Library Closed Today

The Wheaton Public Library is closed Wednesday, Sept. 12, due to underground utility work requiring a water shutoff for the entire library. This closure also applies to the Café on the Park. The library and café will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 13. This work is necessary as crews replace aging infrastructure as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project. Residents may still return materials using the outdoor drop-off near the library's main entrance. Mosquito Spraying Tonight

The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District has notified the City of Wheaton that, weather permitting, its crews will spray for mosquitoes during the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 12. Applications are typically made from dusk until 2 a.m. To be notified by phone when future mosquito spraying will take place, call 1-800-942-2555. 

New Garbage Day for Wednesday Routes 

A new garbage/recycling/yard waste pickup day is in effect starting this week for Wheaton residents served by Lakeshore Recycling Systems who previously had a Wednesday pickup.?Lakeshore Recycling Systems has been distributing notices to these residents about their new garbage day, and?the map is also available on the City's website. 

Main Street Work Under Way 

R.W. Dunteman Company, the contractor that is resurfacing North Main Street in Wheaton, began milling North Main Street between Seminary Avenue and Cole Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 11. This phase of work will last approximately 4 days. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open during this work, but lanes will be shifted to accommodate this work. Please use caution in the work area to help ensure the safety of work crews and motorists. Crews anticipate that they will begin pavement resurfacing the week of Sept. 17. ? 

Paper Shredding and Recycling Extravaganza Offered 

The SCARCE Green Fair this Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. will also include paper shredding. Bring up to 3 paper bags/bankers boxes to the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road, for secure off-site shredding. Remove things like binders, page protectors, paper clips and file tabs - but staples don't need to be removed.? You can also bring items including electronics, books, CDs, metal house keys, SLA batteries, empty propane tanks, bicycles in any condition and more. September Media Sale 

The Friends of the Wheaton Public Library Media Sale is fast approaching. From Sept. 19-23, find music, movies and much more at bargain prices, with all proceeds benefitting library programs. Find out more on the library’s website.  

Historic Bike Tour of Wheaton 

Bring your bike and join the Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission and the City of Wheaton Historic Commission on Saturday, September 22, from 2-4 p.m. for a bicycle tour of the historic WWI sites of Wheaton. This moderately paced bike tour will provide a new way to experience the historic and cultural resources of our community. During the tour stops,?docents will explain the significance of various WWI historic points in Wheaton. All riders must provide their own bicycle and wear a bike helmet during the tour. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult rider. We will meet at the bike racks on the west side of the Wheaton Public Library next to Adams Park and leave at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The required waiver can be downloaded under “Historic WWI Bike Tour of Wheaton” at?www.wheaton.il.us/bikewheaton.
