Drive 25 for a Safe Wheaton

New Speed Limit for Residential Neighborhood Streets

On July 16, the Wheaton City Council voted to lower the speed limit for City of Wheaton residential neighborhoods from 30 mph to 25 mph. Read more about this change and how it will affect you. This change will begin Aug. 1, and you will see street signs being changed over the coming weeks. Starting July 30, the City will have yard signs and car magnets available for residents interested in helping spread the word in their neighborhoods.

Wheaton Police Respond to Armed Robbery

The Wheaton Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Victoria's Secret in Town Square at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. Three females entered the store and removed a felony amount of merchandise.  One of the females displayed and activated a stun gun or taser towards a store employee when exiting the store. The females fled the scene in a silver sports utility vehicle with temporary vehicle registration.

The store provided this video footage from their security cameras. The Wheaton Police Department is requesting anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Lieutenant Bill Cooley at 630-260-2077 or Wcooley@wheaton.il.us.

Wheaton Library Director Named Librarian of the Year

The City of Wheaton is pleased to announce that Betsy Adamowski, Director of the Wheaton Public Library, is the 2018 recipient of the Illinois Library Association (ILA) Librarian of the Year Award. The award recognizes a librarian’s distinguished service and leadership in Illinois libraries. Read more about the accomplishments that led to receiving this award.

Front Street Detour

Due to intensive construction work on Front Street, the City will be diverting daytime Front Street traffic between Main Street and Cross Street during much of this week. Signs will help direct traffic from Front Street south across the railroad tracks to Liberty, east to Cross, and north to Front Street.

Parking Lot Closures for Sealcoating

Weather permitting, the parking lots for Wheaton City Hall, Wheaton Public Library, the College Avenue train station and the Wheaton Police Department visitor parking lot will be closed the evening of Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22 for sealcoating. No overnight parking will be allowed starting July 20. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed.

Expect Traffic Delays, Parking Restrictions during DuPage County Fair July 25-29

The DuPage County Fair will take place July 25-29 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on Manchester Road. During this time, you can expect traffic delays on County Farm Road between Roosevelt and Geneva Road, Manchester Road between County Farm and Gables Boulevard, and surrounding neighborhood side streets near the fairgrounds. Please obey posted signs and use extra caution to ensure the safety of pedestrians going to and from this event

National Night Out

Join Wheaton Police Department for National Night Out

Join the Wheaton Police Department from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 in Memorial Park, 208 W Union Avenue, for National Night Out. As a part of a nationwide night where communities connect with their local police, this free event will include food, a Touch-a-Truck station, a dunk tank (dunk a cop), SWAT station with a children’s obstacle course, DJ and more.

Location Changes for August & September Electronic Recycling

Due to construction on the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, the electronic recycling events for August and September will take place in different locations. On Saturday, Aug. 11, you can recycle electronics at Commuter Parking Lot 9, near the corner of Carlton Avenue and Liberty. This event will ONLY collect electronics; cooking oil, scrap metal or fluorescent tubes will not be accepted. The September collection will take place at the SCARCE Green Fair on Sept. 15 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on Manchester Road. Look for more details about this event coming soon.
