City Offices Closed March 30

Non-emergency City of Wheaton offices will be closed on Friday, March 30. They will reopen on Monday, April 2. Garbage pickup will not be affected.

Celebrate Spring, Celebrate Easter this Weekend

Join the hunt as the Downtown Wheaton Association drops thousands of eggs in Memorial Park and welcomes the Easter Bunny to town! The Easter Egg Hunt starts promptly at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31. The park will be divided up into age-appropriate areas for 0 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 12 years old. Stay for the Easter Bonnet Contest taking place at the band shell immediately following the Easter Egg Hunt. For more information, see the Downtown Wheaton Association’s website.

Yard Waste Pickup Begins Next Week

Lakeshore Recycling Systems will resume yard waste/food scrap collection the week of April 2. Each biodegradable bag or container needs a sticker, available from City Hall and many local grocery and hardware stores. Have questions about what you can include with your yard waste? City Seeks Seasonal Administrative Assistant

The City of Wheaton seeks a seasonal worker to assist the Building Department with various administrative tasks. This position is for May through August. For more information, see the City’s website.

Paper Shredding Offered April 7

The City will host a paper shredding event for Wheaton residents on Saturday, April 7. Please remember to remove binder clips, rubber bands, plastic bags, checkbook covers and other non-paper items from your documents. However, you do not need to remove staples or paper clips. This event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7 in Commuter Parking Lot 9, located at Carlton and Liberty.

Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire

The Wheaton Fire Department responded to a garage fire on South Summit on Friday night. A detached garage behind a single-family home sustained significant damage, but no one was injured in this incident. For more information, see the City’s website.

Police Respond to Robbery at Bank

On Thursday, March 22, the Wheaton Police Department responded to a bank robbery at Chase Bank, 1800 S Naperville Road. The suspect demanded and received an undetermined amount of cash and was last seen fleeing into the Northwestern Medicine building at 7 Blanchard Circle. Police secured the area upon arriving and cleared both buildings without locating the suspect.  A joint investigation will continue between the Wheaton Police Department and the FBI.
