There will be no garbage/recycling pickup on Thursday, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. If your normal pickup day is Thursday or Friday, your pickup will be one day later this week.
Non-emergency City of Wheaton offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.
Holiday Light Recycling Available
The City's holiday light recycling drop-off program is now available. Bring strands of holiday lights for recycling to the City's Public Works Storage Yard at 820 W. Liberty Drive weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. More information is available on the City's website.
Road Closures during Emerson School Turkey Trot
A number of roads will be temporarily closed during the Emerson School Turkey Trot on Thursday morning. Watch for these road closures between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Christmas Parade Kicks Off Holiday Season
Head to downtown Wheaton for the kickoff of the holiday season. The Wheaton Christmas Parade will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, November 24. The parade will start from Wesley Street and Wheaton Avenue, traveling south on Wheaton Avenue, and east on Front Street to Cross Street. Please note these road closures during the parade.
Visit with Santa Starting Saturday
Santa will make a stop in downtown Wheaton each Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 25 through Dec. 23. Come visit Santa in his house in Martin Memorial Plaza, located on Front Street just west of Main Street. This free event is provided by the Downtown Wheaton Association.
Holiday Carriage Rides in Downtown Wheaton
Take in the festive spirit of downtown Wheaton by enjoying a complimentary horse-drawn carriage ride. These will be available from noon to 3 p.m. each Saturday, Nov. 25 through Dec. 23, provided by the Downtown Wheaton Association. Rides will board from Martin Memorial Plaza on Front Street, just west of Main Street.
Cooking Oil Recycling at Wheaton Sanitary District
If you'll be using a lot of cooking oil this week, you can drop off cooking oil to be recycled into biofuel. The Wheaton Sanitary District will be collecting vegetable-based cooking oil from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 25.
