Mayor Suess with League of Women Voters

70th Anniversary of the League of Women Voters of Wheaton Day Proclamation

The League of Women Voters of Wheaton recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, Mayor Suess presented a proclamation making September 22, 2025, the "70th Anniversary of the League of Women Voters of Wheaton Day," commending the League for its contributions to the civic life of the Wheaton community.

Wheaton's chapter of the League of Women Voters was established in 1955 by Marget Hamilton, who later would serve as Mayor of Wheaton (1969-1971). The nonpartisan organization works to provide citizens with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed decisions at the ballot box and in civic life through activities such as candidate forums, voter registration drives, and community education programs.

Congratulations to the League of Women Voters of Wheaton for 70 years of service and commitment to our community.

Celebrate National Walk & Roll to School Day on Oct. 8

The Wheaton Bicyclist & Pedestrian Commission encourages Wheaton schools to join over 1,900 schools from around the country to celebrate National “Walk & Roll to School Day” on Wednesday, Oct. 8. This event encourages children to bike, walk, or scooter to school, promoting physical activity, fostering community, and reducing traffic congestion around schools. It also raises awareness about the need for safe walking and bicycling routes. Each participating school is independently organizing its event; please check with your local school for further details. For more information, visit the City's website.

ComEd to Perform Tree Trimming Along Butterfield Road

Within the next three months, ComEd will trim trees, branches, and vines that interfere or have the potential to interfere with power lines. This work helps prevent safety hazards and power outages.

The work area is along Butterfield Road from Orchard Road to just east of Naperville Road.

Residents who are in affected areas will receive a notice from ComEd regarding this work. You can also view a map of impacted areas in Wheaton by visiting the City's website.

In some cases, tree removal may be required. The remaining tree stumps are treated with an approved herbicide to prevent future regrowth. Herbicide will be applied by state-licensed applicators. All work is performed by trained, qualified arborists.

For more information, visit www.ComEd.com/Trees or call 1-800-Edison-1 (1-800-334-7661).
