French Market Returns April 12The Wheaton French Market returns every Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., from April 12 through Oct. 25 (with shorter hours to finish out the season Nov. 1-29). This year’s market will once again be held under the City’s downtown pavilion, just south of the railroad tracks near Main Street and Liberty Drive. This popular outdoor market run by Bensidoun USA is styled after the quaint outdoor markets of France, offering fresh produce, flowers, handcrafted goods, specialty foods, jewelry, crafts, baked goods and much more. Please note that Liberty Drive will be closed between Main Street and Cross Street (including Municipal Lot 3) every Saturday until approximately 3 p.m. during the French Market season.

Parking Changes in Downtown WheatonChanges are coming to downtown Wheaton parking, designed to meet the needs of both customers and employees by keeping parking spaces closest to downtown businesses available for customers, while providing additional parking options for downtown employees. These updates will roll out in phases this spring and summer. Customer Parking Changes: - A 3-hour time limit will be going into effect for all areas currently designated “customer parking,” effective Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Time limits for customer parking help ensure these spaces are available for shopping, dining or doing business in downtown Wheaton, not for longer-term parking.
- You will begin to see 3-hour customer parking signs installed in the central part of downtown, with 4-hour parking signs installed near the perimeter of downtown. The new time limits will be enforced as signs are installed, so if you see a timed customer parking sign where you are parked, follow the posted time limit.
Blue Dot Parking Program: - In conjunction with timed customer parking, the City is rolling out a new program on July 1 to increase available parking options for downtown employees. The Blue Dot Parking Program will allow downtown businesses to purchase Blue Dot permits for their employees, allowing employees with Blue Dot parking permits to park beyond posted time limits in any areas with Blue Dot signs.
- The City will begin accepting Blue Dot permit applications on May 1, and employees can begin using this program on July 1.
Wheaton Place Garage, Fourth Floor: - As of April 1, the top floor of the Wheaton Place Garage is all daily fee parking spaces, weekdays from 6 a.m.-3 p.m., payable through the Passport app. After 3 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday, these spaces are free and available to customers.
For more information, you can watch this video or visit the City’s website.

Building Permits Moving Online Starting April 7To provide a convenient way for residents and contractors to apply for permits and track their progress toward approval without a trip to City Hall, the Building Department will be launching an online permit portal on April 7. This process will allow you to submit permit applications, accompanying documents and payments to the City online and will streamline the process for City staff to review permits. Please note: From April 2 through April 6, the Building Department will be temporarily unable to accept building permit applications while we’re switching to the new system. Please hold onto all permit applications until April 7. Thank you for your patience as we make this important upgrade. For more information, visit the City's website.

A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR SUESS: Wheaton’s Commitment to Environmental SustainabilityAs spring arrives, it's a great time to reflect on how we can all contribute to a greener, more sustainable Wheaton. The City is committed to environmental sustainability, and we encourage residents to join us in these efforts throughout April and beyond. A great way to start is by participating in two popular events hosted by Wheaton's Environmental Improvement Commission: - Recycling Extravaganza & Paper Shredding Event:Clear out the clutter while protecting the environment on Saturday, April 12, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. This event provides an opportunity to recycle many types of items safely.
- All vehicles entering this event must enter from County Farm Road (505 N. County Farm Road) using the main DuPage County Government Center entrance. The entrance from Manchester Road to the DuPage County Fairgrounds will be closed during this event. To see a list of all accepted items, visit the City’s website.
- Native Plant Sale: This event will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. Hosted in partnership with the Wheaton Park District, this sale offers a fantastic selection of flowers, bushes, grasses, and shrubs native to Illinois. For more information, visit the Wheaton Park District’s website.
In addition to these events, there are numerous ways to embrace sustainable practices year-round: - Curbside Recycling: Wheaton residents can recycle easily with LRS curbside pickup. Simply place all acceptable recyclables in your blue cart — no sorting required. Remember, do not place plastic bags in the recycling cart. For a full list of accepted items, visit the City’s website.
- Monthly Electronic, Scrap Metal, Textile & More Recycling Events: On the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive, residents can recycle electronics, clothing, scrap metal, and more. Find out more on the City’s website.
- Yard Waste, Leaves, Food Scraps & Organics Curbside Collection: Starting April 7 through mid-December, residents can use curbside pickup for yard waste, leaves, food scraps, and organics. Use containers no larger than 35 gallons or biodegradable bags. Each must have a yard waste/organics sticker for collection. Diverting organic waste helps reduce emissions and creates compost for our environment.
- Other Ways to Recycle:
- SCARCE provides numerous opportunities for reusing and recycling everyday items to promote a healthier planet. One such item is bicycles, which many households look to recycle. For a full list of accepted items, visit SCARCE’s website.
- The Household Hazardous Waste facility in Naperville accepts a variety of household hazardous waste items, including batteries (automotive, marine, sump pump, lithium and non-alkaline) and paints and stains (oil-based only). For details on other accepted items, visit Naperville’s website.
By taking part, we can each make a meaningful difference in preserving our environment and ensuring a healthier future for our community. Thank you for your dedication to keeping Wheaton green.
