Update: Gary Avenue Closure Postponed to Week of March 24The previously announced closure of Gary Avenue between Harrison Avenue and Prairie Avenue has been delayed one week, barring unforeseen circumstances. To avoid any unnecessary closures, the City is delaying this road closure until March 24, when the contractor expects to begin this portion of the project. We apologize for the inconvenience. We will continue to post updates at www.wheaton.il.us/GaryAvenue.

Portion of Fapp Circle to be Closed March 22On Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, Fapp Circle between the first parking lot entrance to the Target shopping center to the Wyndemere subdivision will be temporarily closed for a special event. Motorists needing to pass through this area will be able to bypass the closure either using the shopping center parking lot or using Roosevelt Road and County Farm Road. We appreciate your cooperation during this temporary closure.

City of Wheaton Offering Free Mulch to ResidentsThe City of Wheaton now offers free wood chips to its residents for pickup. Mulch can be picked up at the Municipal Parking Lot #9, in the southwest corner of the parking lot. The mulch is the result of all the in-town tree trimmings and tree removals done by Public Works Forestry Crews. This program is the City of Wheaton’s Environmental Initiative to recycle our material and reinvest it back into the community.

Deadline Approaching to Nominate Someone for the 2025 Good Citizens AwardsWheaton's Community Relations Commission is accepting nominations for the 2025 Good Citizens Awards through Monday, March 31. Categories include student and adult. Nominees must be current Wheaton residents who go above and beyond for the Wheaton community and may not be paid for the service for which they are nominated. This may include work with schools, religious institutions, nursing homes, civic groups, nonprofits, or other acts of service. Wheaton Police to Take on Polar Plunge for Special OlympicsOn March 22, Wheaton’s Frostbitten Finest, the Wheaton Police Department team, will take the plunge into an icy pool to raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois. Last year, they raised over $13,000 with the incredible support of the Wheaton community. Save the Date: Wheaton’s Recycling Extravaganza Returns April 12The City’s Environmental Improvement Commission invites the community to its annual Recycling Extravaganza & Paper Shredding Event with SCARCE on Saturday, April 12, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the DuPage Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road. You can bring many types of items for safe disposal or recycling at this drive-through event. Items you can drop off include: - Bikes
- Documents for on-site shredding (limit of four boxes per car, banker box size)
- Electronics ($25-$35 fee for monitors and televisions)
- Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids
- Medical Items: EpiPens, medications, sharps, and syringes
- Propane tanks
- Scrap metal
- Textiles (Please bag clothing, shoes, towels, and blankets)
