Drivers: Use Extra Caution Near Whittier School during Construction

Now through approximately Dec. 13, 2024 there will be a traffic pattern change for Whittier Elementary School due to a roadway project on Arbor & Hale Street. Busses will be picking up and dropping off students on Wheaton Avenue until construction is complete.

The Wheaton Police Department has been in contact with Whittier School administrators, and Whittier families will receive further instructions from the school. Drivers, please use extra caution in this area to help keep our community's students safe.

Steering Wheel Club

Wheaton Police Providing Anti-Theft Devices to Eligible Kia and Hyundai Owners

To combat the rise in recent motor vehicle thefts, the Wheaton Police Department is providing steering wheel lock devices (commonly referred to as a club) to individuals who live or work in Wheaton and own eligible Hyundai and Kia models being targeted by thieves. These devices were donated by the Hyundai and Kia Motor Companies.

To qualify for the program, residents must meet these requirements:

  • You must have a 2011-2021 Hyundai or Kia vehicle with a turn-to-start key ignition system (not a push-to-start button)
  • You must live or work in Wheaton and show a government-issued ID, and
  • The vehicle must be registered to you.

To obtain a steering wheel lock, please contact the Wheaton Police Department either by using the City’s online Service Request Form (select “Request a Steering Wheel Lock”) or by calling 630-260-2161 and asking to speak with the Traffic Unit.
