Trick-or-Treaters

Halloween Safety Tips & Trick-or-Treating Hours

As children throughout our community start getting their costumes ready for Halloween, the City reminds you that the trick-or-treating hours in Wheaton will be 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Drivers should use extra caution on Halloween to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters.

The Wheaton Police Department has some helpful tips to keep trick-or-treaters safe this holiday. Check out this video to hear from some of our officers!

Bring Your Pumpkins to the Pumpkin Smash Compost Event on Nov. 2

The City of Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission will once again host a "Pumpkin Smash” compost event right after Halloween on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m.-noon in Commuter Parking Lot 9, at Liberty Drive & Carlton Avenue.

This collection will allow you to drop off pumpkins (please remove decorations first) to be composted, rather than going to the landfill.

World Polio Day in Wheaton Proclamation

During last week's City Council meeting, members of the Rotary Club of Wheaton and the Rotary Club of Wheaton A.M. accepted a proclamation in honor of World Polio Day in Wheaton, which was Oct. 24, 2024.

Since 1985, the nonprofit service organization Rotary International has worked with global partners to immunize all children worldwide against polio and eradicate the disease. Polio cases have dropped by over 99.9 percent since 1988, and the proclamation honored the work of Rotarians of our local clubs to fight for a polio-free world. Read the proclamation by visiting the City's website.

Wesley Street Right Turn Lane

New Traffic Pattern on Wesley Street

In conjunction with recently completed road reconstruction and utility improvements on Wesley Street, the City has revised the traffic pattern on Wesley Street west of West Street to increase safety in this area. Westbound traffic on Wesley Street (which is a one-way street) west of West Street will now see a right turn only lane for traffic turning north onto Gary Avenue. This lane is separated with a solid white line. Through traffic must use the left lane, and drivers in the right lane must turn right. Failure to obey the traffic pattern can result in traffic accidents and/or citations. Please pay attention to this new traffic pattern and drive safely.
