Right Turn Lane

New Traffic Pattern on Wesley Street

In conjunction with recently completed road reconstruction and utility improvements on Wesley Street, the City has revised the traffic pattern on Wesley Street west of West Street to increase safety in this area. Westbound traffic on Wesley Street (which is a one-way street) west of West Street will now see a right turn only lane for traffic turning north onto Gary Avenue. This lane is separated with a solid white line. Through traffic must use the left lane, and drivers in the right lane must turn right. Failure to obey the traffic pattern can result in traffic accidents and/or citations. Please pay attention to this new traffic pattern and drive safely.

How to #RecycleRight: Keep Plastic Bags OUT of Recycling Cart

Please keep plastic bags OUT of your recycling cart to #RecycleRight. Wheaton's recycling provider, LRS, collects items in recycling carts all mixed together, no sorting required. Items go to a sorting facility that separates items using a series of machines that can break down when things like plastic bags get caught in their gears – a costly problem that slows down the process.

What to do instead: Collect plastic bags and return them to nearly any grocery or big box store, where they can be collected for recycling. Or, skip single-use plastic bags and bring your own reusable bags when you shop.

See the City's website for more items you can/can't recycle.

Downtown Wheaton Trick-or-Treating

Downtown Wheaton Trick-or-Treating Event Taking Place Saturday

Downtown Wheaton Trick-or-Treating, hosted by the Downtown Wheaton Association, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. During this event, businesses throughout the downtown welcome children to get a head start on trick-or-treating by visiting downtown businesses.

Please note that the sidewalk at the northwest corner of Main and Front streets is temporarily closed due to building construction happening near this corner. For everyone's safety, please only cross the street using marked crosswalks, and remind children to do the same. To get around this closure, pedestrians can use the crosswalk to the south side of Front Street and the crosswalk to the east side of Main Street. Thank you for your assistance in helping keep all participants safe during this popular event.
