school bus

Reminder to Follow School Bus Safety Traffic Laws

We're wishing our community an outstanding school year. As a reminder, please remember the following school bus safety traffic laws:

  • On a two-lane road, vehicles traveling in both directions MUST stop when a school bus is loading/unloading.
  • On a road with 4 or more lanes, vehicles traveling in the opposite direction do not have to stop and may proceed with caution. Vehicles traveling in the same direction as a stopped bus MUST stop.
  • On a divided highway (where there is an unpaved space at least 5 feet wide, a raised median or physical barrier), vehicles behind the bus MUST stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction may proceed with caution.

Thank you for your help keeping Wheaton students safe.

Fire Hydrant

City Crews Repainting Fire Hydrants

To keep hydrants in good condition, we repaint some of the City's hydrants each year. The process involves sandblasting the hydrants, applying white primer, and finishing by repainting them yellow. If you see white hydrants, they're getting ready for a new coat of yellow paint and will be back to normal soon.

This year's work area includes 250 hydrants generally on the west side of Wheaton. This project is expected to be completed in approximately 2 weeks.
