Hale Street Temporarily Closed at Railroad Tracks Thursday, Aug. 8The Hale Street railroad crossing in downtown Wheaton will be temporarily closed on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, in conjunction with a redevelopment project near Front Street and Hale Street. To provide adequate space for the temporary use of a crane, northbound Hale Street traffic will be redirected to Liberty Drive. In addition, Front Street traffic will be reduced to one lane near the intersection of Front Street and Hale Street. Please follow detour signs directing traffic to use Main Street or West Street, and use caution in the work area. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Art Competition Now Open for Festival of CulturesThe Wheaton Community Relations Commission invites students to submit original artwork to be showcased at the 2024 Festival of Cultures, which takes place on Sept. 15 at Memorial Park, 225 N. Karlskoga Ave. The Commission will select one art entry for the cover of the Festival of Cultures official program. The winning artist will receive a $50 Visa gift card. All entries will be displayed at the festival. Submission Guidelines: - Deadline: Sept. 1.
- Submissions may be as large as 8x11 but will be sized to fit a 4x6 booklet.
- Artwork should be portrait (vertically) oriented.
- Artwork should be designed for standard 4-color printing.
- Please include the student’s name, year in school, and school name with submissions.

Temporary Road Closure for St. Michael Catholic Church Picnic Saturday, Aug. 10Willow Ave. will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic from West St. to Wheaton Ave. on Saturday, Aug. 10 from approximately 3:30-8 p.m. for St. Michael Catholic Church’s Parish Picnic. Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades to ensure the safety of the participants. Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and choose to alter their travel routes to avoid this area.

Electronic Recycling this SaturdayBring unwanted electronics to the monthly electronic recycling collection on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This is a drive-through event where volunteers will help unload items from your car. There is a charge for all TVs and monitors at this event. Wheaton Police Final Neighborhood Roll Call to Take Place Tuesday, Aug. 13Join the Wheaton Police Department at their final Neighborhood Roll Call event of the summer on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 6:30 p.m., at Prairie Path Park, 620 W. Park Ave. Officers will talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood, crime trends and police programs, and they will present safety demonstrations. In addition, officers will provide fun activities for children. This event is open to everyone in the community, and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their neighbors, too. Roosevelt Road Corridor Zoning Ordinance Amendment Public Hearing Tuesday, Aug. 13The Wheaton Planning & Zoning Board will hold a Public Hearing at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13 to consider an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance pertaining to the recommendations of the Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan. First 2024 Human Case of West Nile Virus Reported in DuPage CountyThe DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) has reported the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in DuPage County in 2024. The DCHD reminds residents to take the following steps to protect themselves against infection and assist in the fight against WNV: - Drain items that collect standing water around your home, yard, or business.
- Use an insect repellent containing DEET when outdoors and reapply according to directions.
- Wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes when outside to cover the skin.
Residents are encouraged to check the Personal Protection Index (PPI) on DCHD's website for the most up-to-date information on WNV activity.

Temporary Road Closures for Wheaton North High School March-A-Thon Aug. 17The Wheaton North High School March-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. The following streets will be temporarily closed from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the event: - Franklin St., between Main St. and Washington St.
- Washington St., between Franklin St. and Seminary Ave.
- Union Ave., between Washington St. and Wheaton Ave.
- Main St., between Lincoln Ave. and Seminary Ave.
- Hale St., between Union Ave. and Wesley St.
- Karlskoga Ave., between Wheaton Ave. and Hale St.
- Wheaton Ave., between Karlskoga Ave. and Oak Ave.
- Oak Ave., between West St. and Wheaton Ave.
- West St., between Prairie Ave. and Oak Ave.
- Armbrust Ave., between Papworth St. and Darling St.
- Papworth St., between Armbrust Ave. and Amy Lane
- Darling St., between Thomas Road to the end of Darling St.
These streets will be staffed with uniformed police personnel to assist and direct traffic during this time. Metra to Add Extra Service for Air and Water Show this WeekendMetra will provide extra trains Aug. 10-11 on the Union Pacific North and Union Pacific West lines for area residents traveling downtown for the annual Chicago Air and Water Show. On Sunday, Aug. 11, extra service will also be provided on the Union Pacific Northwest Line. On other lines with weekend service, Chicago area residents can use the regular weekend schedules to get downtown for the show.
