Public Works Crews Clearing Storm Damage

Public Works crews have been out cleaning up storm damage from the strong storms that hit Wheaton late Saturday night. Work is continuing this week. 

Please note that City crews are collecting storm debris from City-owned parkway trees only. Property owners with tree damage on private property should contact a landscaper or use the weekly curbside yard waste program through LRS to dispose of limbs/branches.

If you need to report damage to parkway trees, please use the City's online service request form at www.wheaton.il.us/ServiceRequest and select "Parkway Tree Storm Damage."

Celebrate Independence Day with the Field of Honor

Come see 2,000 American flags on display in perfectly straight rows at Seven Gables Park, presented by the Wheaton Park District from dawn to dusk, June 29 through July 4.

Each evening offers patriotic performances including vocalists, bagpipers, drummers, Honor Guards, flyovers and Taps.

U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America Concert to Take Place on June 30

The Wheaton Park District invites the community to a free concert at Memorial Park where the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America will perform. From 3-4:30 p.m., this 45-member concert band will honor our nation and its veterans, share stories of our heritage and reflect on all that makes us flourish as individuals and as a country. These are family-friendly, all-ages events. Admission to these performances is free and open to the public. 

Wheaton Police Conducting Speed Enforcement Campaign

Throughout the month of July the Wheaton Police Department will be partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois State Police in stepping up its enforcement efforts across the state to reduce speeding. Motorists can expect to see increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations. Please reduce your speed for safer travel. This enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.

Wheaton Municipal Band to Host Patriotic Spectacular Concert on July 2

Celebrate Independence Day early with the Wheaton Municipal Band at their Patriotic Spectacular concert on Tuesday, July 2! The concert will take place at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave., beginning at 7:30 p.m. Please note that the band will not have a Thursday concert next week.

Wheaton Police to Host Neighborhood Roll Call Event on July 2

Join the Wheaton Police Department at their next Neighborhood Roll Call event on Tuesday, July 2, 6:30 p.m., at 600 E. Harrison St. (adjacent to Fischer Hall).

Officers will talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood, crime trends and police programs, and they will present safety demonstrations. In addition, officers will provide fun activities for children.

Temporary Road Closures for 2024 Independence Day Events

The Wheaton Park District will be hosting Independence Day festivities on July 3 and July 4, 2024. The City of Wheaton encourages everyone in the community to take part.

Fireworks: The fireworks display will be on Wednesday, July 3, at Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, at approximately 9 p.m. The evening will also feature small carnival rides, DJ entertainment, giveaways, and more, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.

During this time, motorists can expect traffic delays on:

  • North County Farm Road, between West Roosevelt Road and Geneva Road
  • Manchester Road, between East Street (Winfield) and North Gables Boulevard
  • Surrounding neighborhood side streets near the DuPage County Fairgrounds

Please use extra caution for pedestrians who are going to and from this event and follow parking regulations and posted signs. Please note that some areas near Graf Park and the DuPage County Fairgrounds will be marked "Temporary No Parking," which will be enforced starting at noon on Wednesday, July 3. 

Parade: The parade will be held on Thursday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, traveling south on Main Street, then turning west (right) onto Union Avenue, continuing south (left) on Wheaton Avenue, turning east (left) on Front Street, and concluding at Cross Street.

Roads temporarily closed from approximately 9 a.m. to noon include:

  • Main Street, between Geneva Road and Liberty Drive
  • Wesley Street, between Washington Street and Main Street
  • Union Avenue, between Main Street and West Street
  • Harrison Avenue, between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street
  • Hale Street, between Karlskoga Avenue and Union Avenue
  • Wheaton Avenue, between Franklin Street and Front Street
  • Seminary Avenue, between West Street and Scott Street
  • Wesley Avenue, between West Street and Hale Street
  • Front Street, between West Street and Cross Street

These streets will be staffed with uniformed police officers and personnel to assist and direct traffic during this time. Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades to ensure participants' safety. Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and choose to alter their travel routes to avoid these areas.

There will also be no parking signs posted on the following streets on July 3, 2024:

  • Union Avenue, both sides of streets between Wheaton Avenue and Main Street
  • Wheaton Avenue, both sides of streets between Union Avenue and Front Street
  • Front Street, both sides of streets between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street

Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation and compliance in not parking in these designated areas from July 3 at 9 p.m. to July 4 at noon, following the conclusion of the parade.

City Offices Closed on Thursday, July 4

In observance of Independence Day, non-emergency City offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will not be picked up on Thursday, July 4. Thursday through Friday pickups will be delayed by one day.
