Storm Cleanup InformationFollowing the high winds we've experienced over the past 24 hours, crews with the City's Public Works Department are out cleaning up debris from trees in the parkway/right-of-way. If you have limbs or branches from parkway trees that need cleanup, please submit a request through the City's Online Service Request form. The City is only able to collect limbs/branches from City-maintained trees. If storm damage is from trees on private property, you should dispose of storm damage using the weekly yard waste curbside service or contact an outside service for removal if this is not feasible. Information on how to prepare your yard waste for curbside pickup by LRS is available on the City's website.

Watch for Temporary Lane Closures on Shaffner RoadDuring this week and the week of May 27, 2024, Public Works Street Division crews are making improvements to Shaffner Road between Roosevelt Road and Wheaton City limits (just north of Mack Road). While crews are milling and patching areas of asphalt, traffic is reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic. Drivers should expect slowdowns or delays during weekdays while this work is under way and may want to use an alternate route. Please use caution in the work area. We appreciate your patience as we work to make these important infrastructure improvements.

Springtime Reminder to ‘Walk Your Wheels’ in Downtown WheatonWith warmer weather comes more pedestrian and bicycle traffic, especially in downtown Wheaton. To help keep everyone safe, the City of Wheaton does not allow you to ride bicycles, skateboards, scooters, in-line skates or roller skates on the sidewalks within the heart of the downtown or through the Hale Street Tents. While you can still ride on the streets, if you choose to go on the sidewalk, you must "walk your wheels" within the boundaries of the following streets: Wesley Street to the north; Cross Street to the east; Willow Street to the south; and West Street to the west. City of Wheaton Building Department Backyard and Pool Safety TipsMay is Building Safety Month! With the warmer weather and families enjoying their outdoor recreational spaces, the City of Wheaton Building Department would like to offer a few reminders to make this a safe, fun, and enjoyable summer. Pool Safety: - Make sure all gates in the barrier fence for your pool are self-closing and self-latching.
- Remove any furniture or other objects that would allow a child to climb up to reach the gate latch or climb over the pool isolation fence.
- Reaching and throwing aids should be kept on both sides of the pool.
- Make sure drain covers are properly fitted and paired or have vacuum suction releases to prevent being trapped underwater.
- Install a pool alarm to detect accidental or unauthorized entrance into the water.
- Use a cover for the pool when it is not in use.
Deck & Grill Safety: - Check for warning signs of an unsafe deck, including loose railings and support beams, missing or loose screws that connect a deck to the house, corrosion, and cracks.
- A grill should be placed away from siding and deck railings. Do not use grills in enclosed areas or on top of anything that can easily burn.
- Keep children away from grills when in use.
For more helpful safety tips, visit the International Code Council's website.

Codes also help with building longevity and sustainability, which improves the overall quality of living and assists in keeping property values higher.
