Lorraine Road Resurfacing Project to Begin This WeekLater this week, crews contracted by the Illinois Department of Transportation plan to begin work to improve Lorraine Road between Roosevelt Road and Harwarden Street. The scope of the project includes replacing sidewalk corners that are not accessible for all individuals and resurfacing the top 3 inches of pavement. This work is expected to be completed by the end of July, barring unforeseen circumstances. The City recently received federal funding to complete this project, and the Illinois Department of Transportation is administering the project. The contractor for this project, A. Lamp Concrete Contractors Inc., plans to begin replacing all sidewalks at the intersections abutting Lorraine Road starting this week. Access to businesses will remain open throughout the project. Please use caution driving near the work area, as there may be temporary lane closures while crews are working. Thank you for your patience as crews complete these important infrastructure improvements.

City Council to Formally Consider Stormwater Utility Fee OrdinanceThe City of Wheaton is proposing to change how it charges stormwater utility fees starting this year. This change does not propose a new fee; it would be a change in how the City calculates the existing stormwater utility fee. Instead of charging based on how much water a household or business uses along with a flat fee, stormwater utility fees would be charged based on how much impervious area (which is any part of a property that prevents stormwater from draining into soil) is on a property. The City Council has previously discussed this proposed change at three City Council Planning Sessions and during two public information meetings. The first reading of the proposed ordinance occurred at the Monday, May 6 City Council meeting. The Council will formally consider the ordinance for adoption at the Monday, May 20 City Council meeting. To find out more about the proposed stormwater utility fee change, please visit the City's website.
