Native Illinois Plant Sale to Take Place this Saturday, April 27Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Illinois Plant Sale from 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This event is provided through the partnership of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton, and Wheaton Park District to encourage the community to choose eco-friendly plants for their landscapes. The list of plants available at the Native Plant Sale is now available for you to preview before the sale. The City's Public Works Department will also provide free mulch for attendees. Those interested in receiving free mulch must bring their own container and shovel.

Hale Street Closing for Return of Outdoor Dining TentsCrews will be closing the block of Hale Street between Front Street and Wesley Street during the evening hours of Sunday, April 28 to begin setting up the Hale Street Tents. From May 3 through Oct. 6, 2024, this block of Hale Street will feature large outdoor tents, providing additional space for outdoor dining that is shared by many nearby restaurants. Managed by the Downtown Wheaton Association, the Hale Street Tents also offer live music and fun. Please remember that you may not ride bikes, scooters, skateboards, or skates under the tents or on downtown sidewalks. You will also find numerous opportunities for outdoor dining and live entertainment in other downtown locations and in Wheaton's other shopping districts during warmer months, too, as many Wheaton restaurants and businesses offer outdoor dining and entertainment. Touch-A-Truck Event Takes Place this Saturday, April 27The Downtown Wheaton Association's Touch-A-Truck event will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make way for trucks, municipal vehicles, emergency vehicles, and more. Get up close, climb, honk, and touch these cool vehicles from right behind the wheel. During the event, Liberty Drive will be closed between Wheaton Avenue and Hale Street.

Temporary Road Closures for Lowell School 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, April 27The 2024 Lowell School 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 27. From approximately 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., the following streets will be temporarily closed for the event: - Crescent between Washington and Chase
- Liberty between Washington and Chase
- Willow between Washington and President
- Illinois between Washington and Chase
- Indiana between Washington and Chase
- Evergreen between Washington and Chase
- Chase between Roosevelt and Crescent
During the event, these streets will be adequately staffed with uniformed police officers to assist and direct traffic. To ensure the safety of the runners, please use caution when driving in this area and do not move the barricades. To view a map of the road closures, visit the City's website.

Apply for 2024 Citizens Police AcademyThe Wheaton Police Department is accepting applications for a 10-week Citizens Police Academy, a chance for community members to learn the inner workings of police operations, practices and objectives. Classes will take place from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 27 through Oct. 29, 2024 at the Wheaton Police Department, 900 W. Liberty Drive, and nearby locations. 2024 Road Construction and Maintenance ProjectsThis year, the City will once again take on multiple miles of road improvements through our annual Road Program. These streets are identified by performing a pavement condition rating analysis. This scoring system helps determine which roads are up for resurfacing, rehabilitation, or complete replacement. ComEd to Perform Tree Trimming in Select AreasWithin the next three months, ComEd will trim trees, branches, and vines that interfere or have the potential to interfere with power lines. This work helps prevent safety hazards and power outages. The work area is generally located along portions of the Illinois Prairie Path and south of Roosevelt Road in west Wheaton, along Orchard Road and surrounding areas. Tree trimming will also occur in central Wheaton, south of Roosevelt Road and west of Blanchard St. Residents who are in affected areas will receive a notice from ComEd regarding this work.
