City of Wheaton Recognizes Earth Year 2024 Proclamation

During this week's City Council meeting, members of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission (EIC) accepted a proclamation from Mayor Suess recognizing Earth Year 2024. The EIC leads many environmental sustainability initiatives such as monthly recycling collections, the Native Plant Sale, the Prairie Path Cleanup, and much more. Portion of Prairie Path in Downtown Temporarily Closed for Repairs

A portion of the Illinois Prairie Path that runs through downtown Wheaton is temporarily closed while crews replace sidewalk segments. This includes the Prairie Path segments along the north side of Liberty Drive from West Street to Cross Street. Weather permitting, these closures are anticipated to be in place for approximately two weeks.

During this closure, pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the south side of Liberty Drive. Bicyclists should either ride on the roadway on Liberty Drive or walk their bicycles on the sidewalk on the south side of Liberty Drive. As a reminder, to ensure pedestrian safety, riding bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades/skates is prohibited within the boundaries of the Central Business District, except for on the Prairie Path. Drivers should use extra caution in the work area and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

Temporary Road Closures for Lowell School 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 27

The 2024 Lowell School 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024. From approximately 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., the following streets will be temporarily closed for the event:

  • Crescent between Washington and Chase
  • Liberty between Washington and Chase
  • Willow between Washington and President
  • Illinois between Washington and Chase
  • Indiana between Washington and Chase
  • Evergreen between Washington and Chase
  • Chase between Roosevelt and Crescent

During the event, these streets will be adequately staffed with uniformed police officers to assist and direct traffic. To ensure the safety of the runners, please use caution when driving in this area and do not move the barricades. To view a map of the road closures, visit the City's website.

Temporary Road Closure for Touch-A-Truck Event on Saturday, April 27

The Downtown Wheaton Association's Touch-A-Truck event will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024. From approximately 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Liberty Drive will be closed between Wheaton Avenue and Hale Street.

Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades to ensure the safety of event goers. Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and choose to alter their travel route to avoid this area.

Two Charged with Stealing From DuPage County Businesses in Unrelated Incidents

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Wheaton Deputy Chief of Police Ryan Conway and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis announced the recent arrests of two individuals accused of stealing from a Wheaton and an Oak Brook retail store in unrelated incidents this past weekend.
