Temporary Road Closures for Reindeer Run 5K on Saturday, Dec. 2The Wheaton Park District and Lions Club Charities will host the 12th annual Lions Club Reindeer Run 5K on Saturday, Dec. 2 in Downtown Wheaton starting at 8:30 a.m. The following streets will be temporarily closed (see a map of the closures) from approximately 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for this event: - Main Street between Front Street and Jefferson Avenue
- Jefferson Avenue between Main Street and Cross Street
- Cross Street between Jefferson Avenue and Prairie Avenue
- Prairie Avenue between Cross Street and Santa Rosa Avenue
- Santa Rosa Avenue between Forest Avenue and Cadillac Drive
- Cadillac Drive between Santa Rosa Avenue and Webster Avenue
- Webster Avenue between Cadillac Drive and Forest Avenue
- Forest Avenue between Irving Avenue and President Street
- Irving Avenue between Forest Avenue and Prairie Avenue
- Oak Avenue between Irving Avenue and Washington Street
- Washington Street between Prairie Avenue and Union Avenue
- Union Avenue between Scott Street and Washington Street
- Scott Street between Union Avenue and Wesley Street
- Wesley Street between Scott Street and Main Street
Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades or cones to ensure the safety of the runners. During the event, streets will be adequately staffed with uniformed Police Officers to assist and direct traffic.

Wheaton Police Department Conducting Traffic & Speed Safety Campaign Now through Dec. 2The Wheaton Police Department & Traffic Unit are conducting a Traffic & Speed Enforcement campaign now through Dec. 2 focused on reminding all drivers to watch their speed. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2021, speeding contributed to nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. City of Wheaton Announces Newest Assistant Fire ChiefPlease help in congratulating Wheaton's newest Assistant Fire Chief, Timothy Sellers. He has served with the Wheaton Fire Department since 2000, most recently as a Lieutenant, before being sworn into this new role during a recent City Council meeting. Santa and Mrs. Claus at the “W” Tent Begins this SaturdayThe Downtown Wheaton Association invites the community to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at the “W” Tent beginning this Saturday, Dec. 2 from 2-4 p.m. This is the perfect time to take a picture with Santa and even check if you made the nice list this year. Nights of Lights Now OpenNights of Lights has returned to Adams Park for its fourth year! Featuring over 55,000 bulbs lighting the trees and an animated light display at the fountain, a walk through Adams Park will “wow” the whole family. Enjoy the festive lighting open daily now through Jan. 7, 2024.

Holiday Light Recycling Program Now through Friday, Jan. 19Wheaton’s holiday light recycling program is back now through Friday, Jan. 19. Bring strands of incandescent or LED lights in any condition to the Public Works Storage Facility at 820 W. Liberty Drive between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays. Look for signs directing you to the holiday light recycling area just inside the gate. This program is for light strings only. Please do not drop off lawn ornaments or other decorations, and do not put lights in a bag or box. In addition to residents, the City also welcomes businesses, schools, and other organizations wanting to dispose of holiday lights to participate in the program. There is no limit as to how many lights you can drop off for recycling.

Light Up Wheaton Holiday Decorating Contest ReturnsThe City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District are once again teaming up for the Light Up Wheaton holiday decorating contest for residents, businesses, churches, and organizations. Participants can compete for prizes (and bragging rights) and be added to the official tour map of participating locations. To enter the Light Up Wheaton contest, register through the Wheaton Park District by Friday, Dec. 8.
