Participate in the “Wheaton Gives Back” Program TodayThe Wheaton Community Relations Commission is once again providing opportunities for Wheaton residents to make a difference in the community through its “Wheaton Gives Back” program, which includes a winter gear drive throughout this month and a volunteer opportunity to unload food for residents in need on Oct. 27. Paving Underway for Wheaton Sanitary District ProjectThe Wheaton Sanitary District has informed the City that crews will be placing new pavement on Manchester Road between Gables and Woodlawn now through Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, weather permitting. While this road will remain open to traffic, flaggers will direct traffic around work crews. Drivers should expect delays during this work and may want to use another route. Please use caution if you are driving in this area. This work is part of the Wheaton Sanitary District 's Northside Interceptor Project, a multi-year project to replace sewer pipes in the area. The Wheaton Sanitary District is a separate entity from the City of Wheaton that provides sewerage treatment for a substantial part of Wheaton.

Wheaton Public Library Displaying Tyrannosaurus Rex SkullIn honor of the Dinos Downtown Wheaton exhibit, the Wheaton Public Library is displaying a full-size fiberglass reproduction of the Wankel Tyrannosaurus Rex’s skull, named Norm. This display is in the library’s Arts & Culture Center now through Monday, Oct. 9. Everyone in the community is encouraged to visit and take a look! Environmental Improvement Commission Encourages Community to “Pick Up Five”The Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission encourages residents to participate in a project that keeps the City both clean and beautiful. “Pick Up Five” is a campaign encouraging everyone to pick up five pieces of litter each day. Keep a collection bag handy and, when it’s full, put it in a receptacle for collection. Cleaning up litter keeps waterways cleaner, prevents animals from getting tangled in plastic and other materials, helps City drains flow freely, reduces visual pollution, and sets a good example for others.

Last Call for Sustainability Award NominationsDo you know someone who is especially eco-conscious? Wheaton's Environmental Improvement Commission wants to recognize the green heroes of our community! Nominate them today for the first-ever Sustainability Awards by filling out this online form on the City's website at https://wheaton.il.us/sustainable. Nominees must live or work in Wheaton. The Commission will be recognizing one adult, one student (K-12 or college) and one organization/business who demonstrate exemplary sustainability practices in our community. Chief of Police Princeton J. Youker Officially Sworn InDeputy Chief Princeton J. Youker was officially sworn in as Chief of Police by Mayor Suess during Monday's City Council Meeting following the retirement of Chief Bill Murphy. Chief Youker has served in the Wheaton Police Department since 2001, starting as a patrol officer, and subsequently serving as a detective, sergeant, lieutenant, public information officer and deputy chief. Congratulations, Chief Youker!

Free Auto Inspection for Seniors Event on Oct. 14On Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Wheaton Fire Department (1 Fapp Circle), the Milton Township Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) Council will host a Free Auto Inspection for Seniors Event. During this event, certified mechanics and volunteers will check your car’s safety and make recommendations for the winter months ahead. Fluid levels and tire pressure will be checked and filled as required. Cars are inspected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Trick-or-Treating HoursThe official trick-or-treating hours in Wheaton are 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Please use extra caution if you are driving on Halloween to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters. If you do not want trick-or-treaters to visit your house, turn off your outside lights and/or place a sign on your door stating that you’re not participating. Trick-or-treaters should be respectful of all neighbors’ property and only cross at marked crosswalks or at the end of the street. Have a happy and safe Halloween.
