Snow Parking RemindersKnowing where and when you can park when it snows helps crews clear streets as quickly as possible. Under City Code 70-344, after 2 inches of accumulated snow, parking is prohibited on any City street, and Downtown Wheaton parking is prohibited from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Vehicles obstructing plows may be towed by the Wheaton Police Department at the owner’s expense. This allows Wheaton’s Public Works Department to clear the roadways efficiently and safely.
Other reminders during snow: - Do not blow, plow or, shovel snow into the street, as this hinders the efforts of City crews and creates a safety hazard for other drivers.
- Help keep fire hydrants visible by clearing snow and ice 3 feet away from the hydrant.
- The City encourages you to keep the sidewalks near your home clear of snow for the safety of children walking to school or bus stops and other pedestrians.
- The City’s snowplows are designed to push snow to the side of the roadway. This is the fastest and most efficient means available to remove snow from the street and open the street to traffic. There is no way to plow the street so that every driveway remains free of piled snow, and the clearing of driveway aprons is the responsibility of the resident.
- The Wheaton Public Works Snow Desk can be reached at 630-260-7669 during most snow events. The voicemail is monitored, and citizens may leave messages for staff regarding any plowing complaints, damage to mailboxes, sod, and any other non-emergency requests or concerns. These requests can also be reported online using the City’s service request form.
- Emergency situations, including impassable or icy roadways, which may cause traffic crashes or stuck vehicles should be immediately reported to 9-1-1.
Clearing the City of snow and ice can be a tremendous task for Wheaton’s Public Works. Please help keep Wheaton’s streets safe by reporting dangerous roadway conditions to 9-1-1 and clearing sidewalks adjacent to your residence or business.

City Council Passes Budget with No Increase in Tax Levy for Fourth Consecutive YearOn Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, the Wheaton City Council approved the City’s 2023 annual budget, which touts no increase in the property tax levy for the fourth year in a row. Additionally, the budget includes no new taxes, and no increase in water, sewer or parking rates.
Despite not raising taxes or revenues, the 2023 budget will maintain current services and will invest more than 22% of the budget – or $26.9 million – in capital improvements to ensure high-quality infrastructure in our community.
The City continues to be well-positioned to withstand economic downturns because of its strong economy, financial policies and budget performance and flexibility. In fact, the City of Wheaton is one of only 19 communities in Illinois and 426 in the U.S. to receive Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings ‘AAA’ credit rating, the top possible rating.
You can view the full City budget on the City’s website.

Cold Weather Emergency Information- Warming Center: In extreme temperatures, the Wheaton Public Library, 225 North Cross Street, serves as a warming site during its open hours.
- Prevent Pipes from Freezing: With below-zero temperatures in the forecast, it is important to take steps to prevent pipes from freezing. Make sure to insulate pipes in unheated areas or against outside walls and seal any leaks that may let cold air in. Keep your garage door closed if your water meter is located in that area. Disconnect your garden hose and shut off the water supply to outside faucets. If the temperature gets extremely cold, open cabinet doors under sinks to allow heat to get to pipes and let a faucet drip at a trickle if possible.
- Power Outage Information: If power outages occur, please contact ComEd at 800-Edison (800-334-7661).

Wesley Street Returns to One-way TrafficWesley Street between the Manchester/Wesley Bridge and West Street will return to its normal one-way traffic pattern starting on Monday, Dec. 12. Earlier this year, the City began work to reconstruct Front Street from West Street to Gary Avenue, which required routing traffic over the Manchester/Wesley Bridge to Wesley Street and temporarily making Wesley Street a two-way street. The process involved replacing sanitary sewer pipes, manholes, and reconstructing the street. Thank you for your patience as crews worked to make important infrastructure upgrades.
