Crews working on the road

Performing Eco-friendly Road Resurfacing with Hot In-place Recycling

Crews this year are using the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) in road resurfacing through a process called "hot in-place recycling." Rather than grinding down pavement, hauling it away and laying down new pavement, hot in-place recycling uses machinery to blast the existing pavement with heat, inject an additive to help make it pliable, break up the surface, smooth it and add a top surface layer. This process greatly reduces the amount of new materials needed by recycling and reusing the existing surface, and reduces emissions by not needing to haul away old materials. It also is more cost-effective than resurfacing. The areas where this is being used this year include: West Liberty Drive; Fapp Circle; East and West Loop Roads; and Danada Drive.

Crews on the street

Public Works Crews Cleaning Up Wind Damage

Wheaton’s Public Works crews are working to clean up damage from this weekend's high winds, which caused a significant amount of downed tree branches and limbs. Crews are prioritizing clearing streets to ensure all roadways are passable and will continue to clear parkway tree damage throughout the City over the next few days.  If you’d like to report damage to parkway trees, please use the City’s Online Service Request Form at www.wheaton.il.us/servicerequest. Please note: The City is clearing damage from parkway trees only; for damage to trees on private property, you will need to place branches/limbs at the curb for yard waste pickup in accordance with LRS guidelines or contact a tree service to remove private trees. Thank you for your patience as our crews continue working to clear damage throughout the City.
